Septic Tank Cleaning

Picture
Septic tank clearing is a process whereby the septic tank is cleaned and the sludge removed with the use of a vacuum, a hose and a tanker. It is best carried out by professionals like Fort Wayne Septic Services. We’d ensure that the septic tank is handled with care and the waste disposed of responsibly. Regular cleaning of a septic tank is important for the purpose of maintaining the septic system and keeping the environment sanitized and free from harmful microbes. Every household should at least have their septic tank cleaned every two years to ensure that it is in a good and sanitized state. However, how often a septic should be cleaned is determines by the number of residents of household members, size of the septic tank, volume of wastewater going into the septic tank and the size of solid in the wastewater.

Size of Household
The size of a household is major factor that determines the regularity of septic tank cleaning because; it’s the individuals in the house who constitutes the wastes that goes into the septic tank. The average volume of water used by individuals per day is 70-80 gallons; meanwhile, it can be increased by leakage problems in the house and other forms of waste that each individual produces.  Disposal of non-biodegradable waste substances such as pills, condoms, sanitary pads, cigarette butts etc. causes septic tanks to be filled up quickly or clog which might cause additional problems.

Size of Septic Tank
The size of the tank also determines how often a septic tank should be cleaned. The size of septic tank ranges from 1000 gallons to 2000 gallons. A septic tank has two chambers, each with an opening and cover, also separated by a dividing wall. The size of the tank is relative to the size of the household using the septic system and also the volume of wastewater and solids going into the tank. It’s not proper for a large household to use an undersized tank because it will get filled up rapidly, especially if it’s not properly maintained and cleaned frequently. The maintenance and sanitation of a septic tank will determine the health of the household and the excessive spending.

Volume of Solids and Wastewater
The volume of solids and wastewater that goes into a septic tank is relative to the number of individuals in the household. The volume of wastewater that goes into the septic tank can be increased by leaking faucets and excess usage of water while the volume of solids is caused by the flushing of substances that could have been disposed by garbage trucks. The amount of solids and wastewater that goes down into your septic tank will determine how well it functions and how often it will need to be cleaned.

Procedure
When wastewater enters the first chamber of the septic tank, the solids settle down while the scum to float. The volume of the settled solid is reduced after it has been digested anaerobically. The second chamber of the septic tank is divided when the liquid waste flows through the wall into it where the waste matter further breaks down and settles. the remaining liquid which is now quite colorless and clear goes into the septic drain field also known as leach field.
